February 2009

Sisters,

This last month the Delta District team hosted our two annual training days, one in Modesto, and the other in Rocklin. I am more than pleased with the number of units that were represented at those gatherings where we sang, worshipped, laughed, munched, and learned together, and re-affirmed our PURPOSE as United Methodist Women.

As I experience the fellowship of our gatherings and get to know my sisters on the Delta District team, I am more and more convinced that we are indeed the “Keepers of the Flame”, United Methodist Women in mission!

We who participated in the workshops on Compassionate Listening, which were capably led by Kathy and Doug Smith, came away with new skills for our continuing journey as we invite women into fellowship.

As we strive to answer the question, “Who Is My Neighbor?” we can do many things to welcome our ethnic sisters, our younger sisters, and those who are new to the United Methodist Church to increase our membership.

We can:

  • Invite women to our gatherings and to Know who we are.

  •  Offer women transportation to gatherings.

  • Plan some events at times more convenient to young women.

  • Recognize publicly the special contributions of individuals.

  • Take part in our “Reading Program”.

  • Institute visitation to our homebound members.

  • Increase our pledge to mission.

  • Attend Mission Education Events and other gatherings.

We are not about meetings, but we are “Women of Purpose”! We are “Keepers of the Flame”. May we continue to grow in faith and understanding.

Blessings,

Meg Estrada
